Miss California Carrie Prejean fired

Miss California Carrie Prejean has been stripped of her sash by pageant organizers for failing to live up to her obligations, and Miss USA owner Donald Trump, who decided to let Prejean keep her crown after racy pictures surfaced last month, supported the decision.

"The Miss California USA Organization, in conjunction with the Miss Universe Organization and with the blessing of its owner, Mr. Donald J. Trump, announced today the termination of Carrie Prejean as Miss California USA 2009, citing continued breach of contract issues," the Miss California Organization said in a statement to Access Hollywood.

Prejean made headlines when she said in the question-and-answer portion of the Miss USA pageant that she didn't support the right of gays and lesbians to marry. She later claimed that her answer lost her the crown. Miss California pageant organizers soon said that Prejean was making herself unavailable for personal appearances while appearing to work with an anti-gay marriage group and making the media rounds to talk about her stance. Then pictures of a mostly-naked Prejean popped up on the web. Trump stepped in and dismissed the furor over the picture as so 20th century, and said he supported Prejean's right to free speech.

Shanna Moakler, a former Miss USA and Lewis' co-director, resigned from her post after Trump spared Prejean. Now she tells Usmagazine.com: "First and foremost, my faith has been restored in the Miss Universe Organization and with Donald Trump. I believed eventually what I intimately knew would come to fruition."
