Pacquiao starts training for June 28 fight vs Diaz

Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao has started training in General Santos City Thursday for his June 28 fight against World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight champion David Diaz.

The Filipino boxer started working on his conditioning at the Golingan Gym, including exercises such as shadow boxing, speedball and sit ups to get his body back into fighting form.

Pacquiao will be training for a full week in General Santos before leaving for Los Angeles on May 10.

He will be then undergo hard training at coach Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles for more than a month.

The Filipino boxer admitted being one week behind his training schedule as he had to catch up with his academics at the Notre Dame of Dadiangas University. He is taking up a Business Administration course.

Pacman said he is expecting his Filipino coach Buboy Fernandez to arrive in General Santos to accompany him in his training.

Pacquiao considers his date with Diaz as an important bout since this will be his first time to fight at 135 pounds.

The Filipino will try to wrest the WBC lightweight crown from Diaz, which was touted by Top Rank boxing promoter Bob Arum as a "tough fighter."

The title clash will take place at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pacquiao plans to get the distinction of being the first Asian to hold four world titles in four divisions.

He already won the WBC super featherweight, IBF super bantamweight and WBC flyweight titles, aside from The Ring Magazine super featherweight crown.

I hope Pacquiao takes it very seriously and moves in for the kill early. Diaz might be a little different than the others.
