Another Pinoy bas the WBC International featherweight crown title.
Sunday night at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City, Filipino rising star Bernabe Concepcion wrested the vacant WBC International featherweight crown with a fifth-round knockout of Kenya's Sande Otieno.
The 20-year-old from Binangonan, Rizal won for the 16th straight time, after referee Bruce McTavish was advised by ringside physician Redentor Viernes to stop the fight during the rest period of the fifth round because of the cut above the Kenyan's left eye.
The cut was opened by a solid right straight from Concepcion midway in the third round.
It was actually a big night for Filipino boxers as former OPBF and Philippine lightflyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro scored a sensational first-round knockout of Thailand's Roslee Sumang in their scheduled 10-rounder.
Jaro decked Sumang, a former muay thai artist, with a thunderous right hook to the face, ending the fight two minutes and 30 seconds into the opening round.
The Thai was on the canvass for almost 10 minutes, while he was checked by ringside physicians.
In the other supporting bout, Denver Cuello also made short work of Indonesian minimumweight champion Yanus Imauri.
Imauri's corner threw in the towel in the rest period of the second round, after Cuello peppered the Indonesian with solid body shots.
