3 Hatton-esque sparmates for Pacquiao

An undefeated boxer who possesses Ricky Hatton’s aggressiveness and a former practice partner of the “Hitman” have been designated as two of Manny Pacquiao’s three new sparmates four weeks before the Filipino superstar clashes with the Briton in Las Vegas for the latter’s IBO light welterweight crown.

Urbano Antillon, still unbeaten in 25 bouts (18 KOs), has been described as a fighter who mimics Hatton’s tireless assaults.

Also getting the chance to spar with Pacquiao are long-time Wild Card fixture and former Hatton sparmate David Rodela, as well as Philadelphia boxer named Tito.

Reports coming out of the Wild Card gym in Hollywood said Pacquiao has improved his footwork, according to website Philboxing.com.

The same report said Pacquiao was now concentrating more on strategy and game plan, and trainer Freddie Roach believes making the weight limit won’t be a problem for his ward.

“At 140, Manny Pacquiao’s gonna be happy,” Roach told website Teampilipinas.info. “He’s in great shape. When Manny struggled to make weight, he’s not happy, he’s miserable, grouchy and all that, he didn’t fight that well.”
